After my horse had quite a go at OH’s horse the other day, I think it would be wise to have his back shoes taken off when the farrier comes next week.

He has worked with fronts only in the past but, even though the farrier said he wasn’t wearing his heels badly, he did tend to look for grass verges etc when out. A lot of the tracks are gravel and so, as I don’t want him to be uncomfortable, thought I’d look into hoof boots.

Is it a thing to just use them on the hinds? I probably won’t be hacking out that much anyway over the winter.

There seems to be such an array! Where do I start?

I love equine fusion boots, and scoot boots, but different boots fit different shaped hooves. Some Boots can be clumpy depending on how close his hooves pass at walk.
I will second hoof boutique too, amazingly helpful
Good luck

first job is to measure the feet. A TB/Arab type has far more choice than a cart horse so then you will see what the choice is. Next is what do you want to use them for? just a wander round the roads once a week or trotting/cantering, going on wet slippery grass where you need better traction? If you are riding on a more stony surface then a boot with a thicker sole for eg a glove may be better than say a thinner soled scoot.

i can recommend Urban Horse too as have just bought boots for mine. They have good instructions on how to measure the hoof, I sent them the photos with a bit about what I want to do and they recommended a boot and a size. They came back really quick with the info too. Boots arrived a few days later
