Hoof grips to stop snow balling up

Would you use snow grips if offered ba your farrier

I am interested to know whether, if offered by UK farriers, you guys would use grips in the horses shoes to stop the snow balling up. They are made of rubber with an "inner tube" on the inside of the shoe. They cause no adverse affects to the foot and can stay in even if you dont get snow.

How much would they cost on top of an ordinary shoeing? I think that would be a big factor for lots of people. I would be interested if they weren't too expensive, they're all in at the moment but I did go for a short ride today with no problems :)
 
Another how much would they cost? My farrier told me about them the other day for my horse with an expenive taste for shoes already (£120+ pounds every 4 weeks!). Sometimes I wonder if people think I am made of money (Im a student on a year out for medical reasons with 3 part time jobs which just about pay my way and the horse!! :p

Jesus what are the shoes made of, gold?!!!!!

The farrier i spoke to said an example price of 30 pounds but i would think each farrier would be slightly different.
 
you are being robbed , fact remains you cannot stop snowballing by spending money wherever you are or whoever you are , the cheapest and proven way is to heavily grease the solar surface so the snow gets no purchase

Hahaha no I wish.... then I could melt them down and sell them afterwards. His heels collapsed and he has the worst case of cracked heels the vet had ever seen. I had concerns about his feet but the farrier before the current one (was used by all the liverys at my yard at uni!) told me they were the best feet he had ever seen.....??? He was a lazy git though! So now he is in heart bar shoes to encourage growth and gels to try and reduce the concussion on his heels. My poor boy :(. They have to be changed every 4 weeks to try and encourage the hoof to grow down and not fowards!

Sorry but you are wrong, my horses all have these snow grips in and they NEVER have snow balling up in their hooves :)
 
I had some fitted yesterday by our farrier. We had purchased them 2 years ago from our old German farrier and only now used them. Yesterday and today I walked, trotted and cantered plus lateral work. Not one issue. Dont know how long they will last for, only time will tell, but we have had two days work after one week lay off and they look fine, work well so far!! ;~)
 
Does anyone have any pictures? I've never heard of these type. Just thought they put a ruber pad in over the sole. But i found shavings etc get under them and cause problems when they were used on a horse with Navicular so not keen on those.

Our problem in the snow, is the farrier getting here in the first place!
 
It is more like an inner tube aroung the inside edge of the shoe with a flat piece that goes under the shoe where it is fixed. You can get a hoof pick under it to give it a good clean. All mine are on shavings and i have no problem with smelly feet.

I will try and take a pic tomorrow :)
