9 year old dressage TB was on winter break - hand-walking, light lungeing, and small pasture turn out. He was in pasture that was pretty much frozen, but not that bad, and was full of energy, trotting in hand and stuff, but was calm in the pasture because he is smart guy.
Day after, I find him severly lame, pointing left front leg, holding it in front. Vet called - says he probably stood on something uneven, so a hematoma, or bruised sole. 5 days of heavy therapy, no improvement. Horse lame, and as he was standing on his right, his right was tired, hot hoof too and raised pulse. So we think lamintis, cut off his grain - no improvement. Horse was then shoed with pads and bar shoes, and remained as lame as he was after shoeing. Tomorrow, day after shoeing, leg slightly filled, minor swelling, and one spot at coronary band swollen, like an abscess is about to burst. Days passed, nothing ever came out, farrier found nothing. Around 2 weeks from the day it occured, horse was sound in trot, and walk, but still struggled to turn it tight circles. He was on 1 month strict box rest, and eating grain normally, standing normally. His right hoof had no pusle, and stone cold, and left one was going back to normal too. Box rest was coming to an end, horse was able to put leg under him when turning, was 100% comfortable. 2 days before box rest ended, I thought I can feel pulse again, and pusle did not exist for the laSt 25 days. Box rest ended, horse was walked in hand for 5 minutes a day. First I noticed pulse again, then he started to point leg again, only after hand-walking, and a bit of in hand trotting he did because he was full of energy. 4 days after he started in hand walking, he holds leg in front of him, was unwilling to move around box the first day I saw him in that stance. Now he still points it, has easily felt but not bounding pulse in that hoof, hoof is hot, but sometimes almost no heat. His right front is stone cold, no pusle felt. Vet was out again, and says we will x-ray his foot. He still thinks horse has a hematoma inside, that will get out as hoof grows or something. I'm broken. For a month I took care of him, taking care of all the little things, careful about every step he takes, checking his pulses and hooves many times a day, and when he was supposed to go back to work, this happens. I'm afraid of the x-rays. Of the findings. And it is definitely and only his left front hoof. I'm thinking either a fracture of one of the three bones, or most likely - navicular. His left hoof does have quite a low heel, and looks way different than his right. I know - bad shoeing.
I'll fix it. But please give me opinions, and advice.
