Hi...Well it's that time of year again when the ground is getting hard and dry, leading to my horses hooves chipping at the bottom.
He's only 20 months old so no shoes yet and he's trimmed every 6 weeks but due to the ground he's starting to get chipped hooves.
I've got a bit of last years NAF Hoof Moist which i'm going to finish off but before i go and buy some more can anyone suggest any other hoof applications?
His feet are healthy but i just want to keep those pesky chips at bay. :D

I use 'Kevin Bacon' hoof products as recommended by my farrier............a little more expensive than other manufacturers, but it works for me.

Kerratex hoof hardener right along the very edge of the hoof, where it comes into contact with the floor, but applied when stood on flat ground - i.e. you don't really want the underside coating, nor do you want to compromise higher up. HH is a solution to a symptom, not a cure for a cause!
On the moisturiser front, asked various farriers over the years and they've said nothing does better than half an hour a day stood in damp grass, or the sea, or a stream... um, right... So I am wondering about aqueous cream from Boots??! If it's good enough for me etc...

Hoofheal. It's an oil (with lots of other things added) that's easy to apply & I've used it on numerous horses for yrs, and really see the difference.
"The farrier" on here recommends too.

NAF Hoof Moist have been using it for a number of years and it seems to maintain the moisture level in the hoof even in the dryest of conditions.

Folks I have the Kevin Bacon oil, the liquid one that ones with a brush attached to the lid. Do the hooves need to be really clean? Does it matter if little bits get stuck to the brush.
