due to local vets not being able to diagnose lameness in hoof our pony is now booked into Newmarket for MRI on hoof.

We are booked in for lunchtime but he doesn't have MRI until next morning.

Has anyone gone through this? do they do lameness assessment again before MRi?

Any information appreciated, thanks

Mine had already had a lameness work up ( x rays and nerve blocks ) at my usual vets so they narrowed down where they thought it might be. He went to Bell Equine for his MRI. They removed his shoes and then x rayed his feet to check for metal fragments, he was then sedated and was in about 3 hrs. I picked him up later that day with just the usual cautions about a horse that has been sedated.

Mine had MRI at Liphook a few weeks ago. They just removed shoes, xrayed then MRI under standing sedation. Picked him up a few hours later.

Hi, it has already been narrowed down to one hoof so i think they will just do MRI on that but was hoping for someone to tell me findings but apparently we are sent on our way home then they report to our local vet and we have to wait for him to ring me .

I picked up my report the next day (only cause the referral vets is practically next door to my house :) ) so you do get the finding failry quickly. I got a copy and one got sent to my actual vets

My horse had MRI scan done on both front legs recently, I dropped him off at 8.30 in the morning & just waited as they told me he would be finished by lunch time. It took till 6pm as he kept moving even under sedation, apparently they have to stand very still & give the horse a break between legs. I had to wait a week for results & report unfortunately.

I dropped mine off at O'Gorman in Newbury on the first day, they MRI'ed her the next day and rang with results that evening. I picked her up the next morning.
It looks like it varies a lot between vets!
Good luck!

Mine had a day appointment, there for 9, finished at 5 but it was more like 6, the vet gave me the result there and then but it took a week for the report and images to get to my vet, does seem variable between vets, good luck :)

They usually re-de the lameness exam on the day just to check nothing's changed since the horse was referred.
The horse has to stand COMPLETELY still, so depending on temperament it can take longer for some than others. Every time the horse moves (even a millimetre) the magnet will have to be lined up again and they will have to repeat the last 5-10 minutes of scanning. Then after a while the sedative makes them need a wee so they have to have a break and then come back in! The reason they like them in a bit earlier is so that the horse has time to relax and accommodate to his surroundings so that when he goes into the scan he's in a better frame of mind and more likely to stand nicely.
So basically, it does vary a lot.

My girl has recently been to newmarket for surgery on her ddft in the hoof, i ended up having to drop her off a couple of days earlier, they then did all the lameness work up's again, inc x rays on the day before. Vet rang me after and before surgery, the care they gave her was fantastic and the staff really good with both horses and owners leaving their precious animals there :) You horse will be in the best place with really good people, good luck and let us know the outcome x
