Hoof oil in mud time

Hi!

Question - how to apply hoof oil in mud? My first winter with horse and he has sucha muddy feet. No water helps Can I apply hoof oil on muddy hoofs? Seems wrong. Maybe some anti mud suggestions.

I'm a bit stuck as to why you want to put hoof oil on can you explain please. Why do you want to keep the mud off the feet? when you bring the horse in either wash the mud off with a brush and water or use a towel and dry towel the feet.

Hoof oil is purely cosmetic, it serves no purpose for hoof health. In wet months the horse will benefit from periods of time stood on a dry surface after you towel dry his legs.

I don’t use hoof oil in winter. In winter, if it’s wet, there’s not much use in it really.

I used it a bit this summer because it did help with moisturising the hooves in the dry weather (which now seems like a distant memory), and prevented some grass cracks. Other than that, don’t worry about it too much.

I don't use hoof oil in winter unless for cosmetic regions, such as out competing. It doesn't actually do much.
If I really wanted to I would wash the feet off,let them dry then apply.

As above hoof oil is cosmetic. Hoof horn is moisturised by water. If you want to try to keep mud from sticking to hooves try using pig oil which can also help protect lower legs from being over soaked and maybe getting mud fever.

No anti mud suggestions sorry! Embrace it it’s going to get a lot muddier yet!
I don’t even own hoof oil but I do just wash off/pick out to apply other products .
