A potential riding horse/show hunter type, 3 socks...

what would you use for the above classes and why?

Is there an unwritten rule about this?? A judge once told me to use hoof black, but am concerned this will look 'odd'..?!

What hoof black do you use Fides? I always find the ones I have used are very 'thin' on application and more like adaily oil that a show one.

If the horse has white feet then use oil. Nothing looks more stupid than a horse with obviously blacked out white feet.

This^^^ and i find absorbine works well but as others have said dont apply if you have the farrier coming the next day!!!!

My farrier nearly fainted when he was presented with a horse with blacked up feet. He said it's really bad for hooves as they can't breathe through it.

You don't use it all the time - just for shows and it rubs off very quickly.

OP - if you are going to use black put it on all the hooves - if you have an M&M only use the clear one!

I wouldn't do it day to day - it's a showing thing to make their socks ping

It will also look ridiculous in the show ring. As a judge it would make me cringe, but personally I'd be far more interested in correct confirmation / type & manner of going than any cosmetic effects.

I cant stand the black paint for hooves I think it looks horrible, I have an Arab so your not allowed to alter the colour of hooves in the show ring, I just use plain old baby oil on mine does the job fine.

It looks smart on a grey IMO and is 'the done thing' for several classes (inc. both hunters and riding horses IIRC) though I wouldn't use it on a non grey (but then I don't take showing seriously :p )
