Would you ever dump a toe so much that the laminae are revealed? With shoes (can't see you could do it without shoes, the wall would start breaking away but??). Seen it in a horse with a history of laminitis and possibly undiagnosed navicular this morning, couldn't take pics because not my horse.
 
Seen it loads of times over the years.... Standard practice with laminitis for some farriers.
 
If x-rays have been taken showing a severely rotated pedal bone & the trim is done in accordance with these then I'd be genuinely interested in how you could do it without this result.

Mine was. Boots and pads for support and trimming in smaller increments. Mine lost 1cm off the width and 2cm off the length over 2 months without exposing the laminae - professional trimmed every 3 or 4 weeks and I kept the breakover going and flare reduced in between times. Isn't there a risk of infection if you go through the outer hoof wall?
