Due to my farriers holidays, my horse has gone 7 weeks in between shoeings - farrier is coming on Tuesday.

Though he had a loose shoe, but on closer inspection they dont seem to be loose but there is a gap between the toe and the shoe - like he has lost a chunk of toe from each hoof, about 5mm gap between the toe and shoe.

What could cause this? Should I be worried? He normally has really good feet, but obviously the fields have been soaked for the last few weeks?

I guess when the farrier trims and re-shoes it will be fine again but this has never happened before?

Don't worry about it, nothing to worry about at all!!!

Thats good to hear - will it just be something to do with the wet ground making his hooves a bit weak and crumbly? After everything else going on (in the middle of treatment for arthritis with him at the mo) I don't want to let anything else escalate into something serious!

Think it will be due to the wet ground, hooves are like our finger nails, they get soft when wet and break off and shoes usually get lost then. Its not always to do with mud causing cast shoes, - so my Farrier tells me.!
