Personally as I'm sure people are figuring out quite quickly I'm not a huge fan of nutraceuticals as a rule but I have realised there is a real need for good hoof supplements, especially in times of stress or illness for those horses with pre-existing poor horn quality.
I've used Equistro Biotin Forte in cases a lot, but you can only get it through vets any biotin and magnesium supplement is helpful though.
ive been using formula4feet and my mares feet have improved a lot and my farrier commented on the good condition of her feet without knowing that i was feeding a supplement and he has been shoeing her for the last 8 years. i think what works for one horse may not work on another so its trial and error. hope this helps
I've had my pony on formula4feet for about 2years now and his feet are a ten times better. Before he was losing shoes every couple of weeks, big bits cracking off and just in generaly rubbish condition. Since being on it he's not lost a single shoe and doesn't lose big bits.
I think that if you get the minerals sufficient and the diet right you should be able to see better hoof quality without the need for expensive comouund supplements
We use magnesium oxide, with a good quality general mineral supplement. The optimal approach is to have a mineral supplement specifically made for your forrage compliment, we are lucky to have an equine supplement made loically for local soil conditions.
