hoof suppliments

Can anyone recommend me a hoof suppliment that they feel works. My TB has great shaped feet and through winter they are in good condition without any suppliments. However as soon as the ground drys up his feet start falling apart and we lose shoes. I use Nettex Summer hoof on them daily and there are no fungal infections and no sand cracks. He doesn't grow a lot of hoof but it is good quality through winter.

I had one farrier who said just use basic Biotin (comes in a tub). A friend swore by Farrier's Formula (but it is expensive if I remember right).

We used Biotin, and painted on the Cornucrescine, seemed to work well on Little Lad.

I use formula 4 feet in their feed and cornucresine rubbed on 3 - 4 times a week - seems to be a combination that works for me

I use pro feet supplement and the pro feet formual that you paint on the soles and horn....my tbs feet have improved 100% with this....i also use kevin bacon every day in the summer......and because my boys feet grow i've decided to go 5 weeks between shoeing during the summer to prevent getting into the lost shoe cycle............blumin tbs!!!

Profeet has worked wonders on my terribly hoofed TB!

It takes a while to work , around 4 months on mine .
The hoof grows faster and seems to be much better quality horn, my farrier is really impressed and my horse keeps shoes on!!

Ok - will definitely try the pro feet. I can't believe I am loosing so many shoes. I brought my boy in on Wed night and he had pulled a hind shoe. So my farrier was fantastic and came out yesterday morning at 6.15 to put that shoe on. He decided to reshoe both hinds, checked the two fronts and they were on tight. He is coming out Monday in any case to shoe my others. So I had four well shod feet yesterday. I went XC schooling yesterday afternoon - and he has pulled a front shoe off. God knows how he did it. he had over reach boots on and they were definitely big enough to cover the shoe. The shoe is not twisted just come off cleanly taking hoof with it. My farrier is brilliant and I never have a problem with shoes in winter, or with any of the other horses he shoes. Just the dry ground seems to really affect the TB's horn quality. And his feet are shod every 6- weeks depending on hoof growth (which is not much) , and checked every 3 to minimise lost shoe syndrome. He just seems to know how to get rid at the most inconvenient times.

I used vetvits equihoof - only costs about £14 a tub, and tub lasts three months. You have to order it online or over the phone, but it worked wonders on my lad. I would also recommend straight biotin. Something else to look at would be the horse first supplements - I haven't used their hoof one, but the relax me that they do worked wonders, and I have only heard good things about their range.

I was just about to post a similar post.
My new mare had resonable feet since we got her in Feb (she is unshod as only 3) the last couple of weeks as the ground has hardend they have just got into an awful state with big chips and a slight crack in on of them.
Ive been using Sommer Hoof (cant think who it is made by to think its Hauf?) but it dosnt see to be making much of a difference. Ive also been packing the slight crack with stokholm tar
Gonna call the farrier out to see if he can do anything but would like a suppliment as a preventative measure.
Her feet grow really slowly so was considering buying some equiboots for her to wear until they have grown a little to prevent ay more damage being done?

I was told by my farrier that if i wanted my TB to stop loosing shoes to feed Formula 4 feet and use keratex twice a week. That was over a year ago and he hasnt lost a shoe in 10 months (touches lots of wood). I get my F4F from pre-equestrian on ebay (Next day delivery because I'm useless and forget!). I also use it as my vit/min sup so that is the only supp both of mine get (except for linseed) so it doesnt work out that expensive.

What works for one horse may be useless on another, so it may be a case of trial and error. For me, I have found the only thing that had any effect is Equimins Biotin. The more expensive products did nothing.

Biotin and hoof heal. have had a lot of horses feet improve with the use of hoof heal.
