Well, all said and done the change in the big fella is amazing since he moved on Monday. Hoses are friends, mummy is listened to, and he calls to me from the field.. which is ace. Soooo... after ;the door' event, I thought yesterday it was time to tackle that. He's never been a problem in the stable - has barged out a couple of times, but nothing particularly springs to mind. So... I brought him in, have been typing him up outside stable, but decided to take him in the box and tie him up and groom / general faff inside. Plus it was raining a little. Well, took him in, tied him up, turned to get kit from front of the stable, turned round... and... he's vertical. Was rather like watching a silent rodeo! I stood and watched, as not much I could do, if I went up to his head, chances are I'd have been squashed... so... he went vertical a few times, struck out at the brick wall, stood on the brick low wall (old fashioned gorgeous stable) trough at the back, dug his banks up (thi sis all in the space of about a minute, felt like hours! then he finally remembered his trick of untieing, so did that, and as he turned, I just took his rope, led him out and straight back in! I didn't tie him inside, but he was happy enough to go in, so led him outl tied him up, did what I needed to, and popped him back out. Arse or.... ARGGHHH!! was so proud I stayed calm, he really did look rather huge vertical- but had to smile when he decided to plant both fronts up the wall and stand there for a second... odd but... no idea why????

Does sound like he is settling in well though - I'm sure he will soon get the hang of the stable - just keep doing what you are doing and not make an issue of it. Take him in for grooming - maybe give him a handful of pony nuts - tack him up, change rugs etc Hang a big haynet up for him to stick his nose in and he will get used to it!! Better to do it now then have him kiciking off in the winter when he needs to be in.

Well done for keeping calm though - sounds like you are getting more and more confident with him as the days go by.

Numpty is about right! He's gone out today into his 'real' field today, with the others, was really chilled, went by again tonight, some of the others are only out at night, and the tiny terror on the yard is in with him - about 12hh and terrorising him - just hope I'll be able to bring him in tomorrow for his ablutions! But the good news is that one of the girls has a measuring stick, and he really hated that - but gave in quickly - so I now know he is 15.2hh (vet had him at 16hh), I am also 15.2 and my dog is 6hh! Can you tell we had some time spare? hehe

Well, he went in the stable today, tried a few barges out, then stood looking all confused and hurt at Mummy when she said NO and mean't it! He did get passed me a couple of times, but whipped him round straight back in, ended up standing on a nice loose rope looking puzzled. Only bad bit so far is he's being chased around byt a litel Section A in the field, who is bossing him around and making it really hard to bring him in - OH had to catch small pony so I could bring my big lad in yesterday - I really can't manage that on my own!

Hee hee!!

My cob used to be terrorised by my neices 12.2h - pony was a a law unto itself!! even managed to get into my mares stable one day and eat her dinner - my mare just stood at the back of her stable looking affronted but luckily didn't try and kick the pony or stable to death!! The pony/field situation should settle down over the next week or so as the pecking order is established - by the sound of it with you lad at the bottom!!

Haha that's one talented pony! jack Russells of the horse world! Yep, Peds always seems to be bottom of the heap, I think that's why he tries to lord it over me so much - Im the only one he thinks he can get away with being a pain with! No more I say! Poor lad
