Hooves and thrush, advice please

Have you thought of using 'Cleantrax' an American product that only targets the infected tissue and leaves the healthy tissue intact? It works on both bacterial and fungal infections - most hoof infections are a combination of both. It isn't cheap but you only need buy the one soaking boot as you can do one hoof then another with the same solution. It is something I have in my cupboard ready for hoof abscesses etc as it works brilliantly. It's a bit of a palavar but you only do it once.
As for sprays, the cheapest and best for us is Frogwell which has natural disinfectants like tea tree oil that don't damage the frog tissue - hydrogen peroxide is a good disinfectant but you need to know how concentrated, how long to leave it on etc

Another vote for Milton. Hydrogen peroxide is too harsh. After soaking in Milton I apply sudocreme all around the frog & in the central sulcus.

Yup, it worked. 5 days with the copper sulphate crystals, the alginate and a hoof boot on (he was out 24/7, but we checked under the boot daily to make sure there was no rubbing). When we took the boot off, he had blue feet, no thrush and his frog was patently regrowing. Now have copper sulphate crystals mixed up with water in a spray, and am spraying his frogs daily, everyone else's weekly. Cheap and effective!

Always used diluted hydrogen peroxide as recommended by vet & farrier.

The most important thing is to pick the feet out as many times a day as possible, the bacteria that causes thrush can only live in a non-oxygen enviroment.

Don't use any creams or tar as this just traps the bacteria and allows it to multiply.

Hp!!! The wonder drug! Works for sooo many things?!!! However chemists near me no longer stock it and I've been told they're not allowed to anymore?!?!?!?!

Thrush is a fungus, not a bacteria, so it's best cleared up with a fungicide. Copper Sulphate is a very effective fungicide, but there are loads of others, including Athlete's Foot spray (that's a fungus too....)
