Hooves, Shoes and Farriers

Oh, and in reply to everyones helpful suggestions - I did feed Simple System feeds at one point but, there are no stockist near me and it was a real faff getting hold of the stuff :(

I had been rubbing cornucresine into her coronet band - also tried Megatek but neither made any difference. Megatek smells gorgeous though :D

If I eventually get her shoes off then boots AND gel pads will deffo be in order to start her off - the ground around here is very stoney.

For the time being, I have been put off glue on shoes - seems they don't stay on all that well and they are hideously expensive.

I can see why you are worried about taking her shoes off, but I honestly believe that that is what you need to aim for.

Get her diet right so that she starts to grow better horn, get her measured for boots and then, when you and she are ready, take the shoes off.

I've had a lot of hoof troubles with one of my horses and it was everso distressing and a long process (still ongoing as she's now growing even better hooves since I swapped to an unmolassed chaff) so I do understand how painful it is as an owner watching your horse struggle.
