Hi, my horse has recently come off loan and his feet aren't growing like they used to. All the time I have had him he has to be shod every 5 weeks as his feet grow so fast, we are at week 4 since shoeing but they still look like they have only just been put on. Why are you complaining I hear you ask, well he has lameness issues so we are trying to help that with shoeing but can only do that when his feet grow! He is currently feed, half a scoop of sugarbeet dry weight, 1/2 scoop of linseed, and a handful of hi fi good doer (this will change to graze on once this bag is finished) split into 2 feeds. As well as ad lib haylage, He is slightly underweight as he stressed himself out at the vets (was perfect before this) Any suggestions that will help his feet grow? and possible put some weight on without sending his crazy. Feet are my biggest concern his condition will improve once the grass grows.

Do you have him on any Vitamin and Mineral Supplements.Four of mine are fed Hi Fi Lite,Pasture Nuts and one other is fed HiFi Molasses Free,Hi Fibre Nuts and Lo Cal Balancer, all just wet with water. They all have Naf General Purpose Supplement once a day and all grow a lot of foot, they have 2 haynets a day and are fed 3 x a day. They all look fantastic and have to be shod on 4 weeks-never more than 5 and my Barefoot has to be trimmed every 3 weeks and then has a massive amount to come off.May def be worth trying him on a good all round Vit and min supplement. As he has been through a lot it may take a while for his body to settle, come well and start to grow again.

Thanks Fusspot, never needed anything like this with him before. I do appreciate it will take time for everything to work, just wondering if I had missed anything for him. His only supplement is Cortavet (and I know it has soya in it before anyone tells me) on the vets advice and 1 danilon a day. I will look into a vitamin supplement for him.
