Had to call the vet today who is coming out tomorrow afternoon. 2 weeks ago my 9 year old Anglo - Arab gelding came in from the field with some sort of insect bites between his point of buttock and hamstring, one looked very nasty and a bit infected so I hosed his leg 3 times a day for about 10 minutes and put antibiotic cream and cooling gel on it and put him back out in the field because I thought the more he walks the more he will work the fluid off. The next morning (when I was supposed to be going out to a show) he came in fine the swelling hadn't got bigger so I done the same routine, hose etc and put him in his stable. After one hour he came out dragging his toe and lame, we walked him around the yard a few times and it soon worked off and he was fine so we decided to put him back out in the field seeing as that was helping. He was living out for about 3 days and we brought him in twice a day to hose it and put lotions and potions on it. He wasn't as stiff and went back to being in his stable during the day and out each night. The first day he came out of his stable slightly stiff but not half as bad as before so he was obviously on the mend but was still lame in trot. We carried on like this until he was sound in walk and just slightly stiff in trot and it worked off, I started to bring him back into work with a bit of light lunging, when he was sound on the lunge I started to ride him, again slightly stiff in trot but worked it off. This was all going fine until today when he came out of his stable quite stiff, I got on him in the menage and the stiffness worked off in walk enough for me to try an trot but he was lame in trot, almost back to square one. There is not heat in his leg or hoof, no swelling the insect bites/stings are almost gone, you can feel them but not see them. So have no idea what's going on with him. If any one can shed some light on this mystery lameness please do!
