My lovely share pony has been prescribed Paracetomol by vets. Is there anywhere online it can be purchased in quantity? Vet happy for owner to source.

I don't think there is - we have a pony on paracetamol on the yard I'm on and every so often an appeal goes out to the whole yard to buy some if he's running low so that's how we circumvent the limit.

It is a ridiculous rule really, in that our local town has at least four shops within 100m where you could go and buy four times the limit by visiting each in turn.

Get a prescription from your vets and take it to your local pharmacy. Legal limits are very strict both from supermarket or pharmacy and not licenced to be sold for animal usage. Maybe £20 for vet to issue private Rx, ask them to make it repeatable with a quantity of a month's supply (eg 500, 1000 or whatever appropriate) then you can just get it dispensed as needed. Cheap as chips that way.

i know it mught not be possible but if you know anyone going to the US soon you can buy tubs of 200 for about 4 dollars and can be as many tubs as youd like maybe if you know anyone going soon?

Wow! That’s amazing. Bringing it back through customs might be a challenge. Plus I don’t know if anyone. Fascinating though.

My vet provide a large tub of paracetamol powder for circa £50. It lasts mine about a month. I don’t know how each small scoop is compared to a tablet but might be worth investigating?

If you say (as per title) that the pony has been prescribed the paracetamol by a vet, there should not be an issue. When Rigs was prescribed an asthma inhaler, I simply set him up an account at the local pharmacy and they filled it no bother. With a prescription from a vet, they will do a larger number of tablets than they are able to sell over the counter.

I've always stocked up on paracetamol (it's got a different name in the US though, something beginning with A), ibuprofen and melatonin (prescription only here but very handy for jet lag and available over the counter in the US) when in the States. I don't think there's any issue with customs...although it depends on how many you need of course. A suitcase-full might look a bit suspicious!

Acetaminophen. Or tylenol. I believe. Will have to ask my cruising pals.

One of mine was just prescribed 400 paracetamol by vet the other day - annoyingly I don't have the breakdown of my invoice yet but, the total amount was £390 and that included £100 call out and exam, plus full bloods, plus urine testing, plus 40 bute (usually about £80 for that amount), plus the 400 paracetamol, plus a jab for another pony which is £65 so the paracetamol must have been pretty reasonable, given the cost of everything else. They are exactly the same as normal paracetamol, I have just been crushing up the tablets with a pestle and mortar and adding to the feeds. They just came in boxes of 100 from the vet.

Basically a longwinded way of saying you're probably best off sourcing direct from vet!

It's more expensive from the vet but for me it's worth it to avoid the hassle. If you get tablets, I recommend a little coffee grinder about £20 off amazon, it does a great job of turning them into powder. Mine's rechargeable but lasts for months with intermittent use.
