So I’m going to view a gorgeous looking Irish 14.3 tomorrow which is 2 1/2 hours away. Nearly bought unseen as videos etc are all good! But thought I had better be sensible! She is 3 in August. Owner looks like they have done a brilliant job with all the groundwork! She long reins, good in traffic, loads, ties up, good with hose etc! I’m so excited as she looks just lovely!
So re backing! I think back next Spring just before she is 4 and then turn away for Winter? I’ve never had a youngster before but got a brilliant instructor who will help. What do you guys think re backing? This is going to be my forever horse! Also, is she likely to grow a little more?
Thanks for any advice! Going to get 2 stage vetting done of course.

My neighbour got a 3 yr old gelding a month ago after despairing at prices of ridden ones.
They have already built on his long reining, been leading him out and are planning on lightly backing him in the next month as he is quite precocious and already well developed.
They plan to get him to be walking and introducing a little trot, then that's it.
He will also be got out to at least 3 or 4 shows in hand to get used to travelling and sights and sounds, as well as all the faff of standing in line etc.
He'll get a break completely by end Aug then restart around xmas, plan in a couple of intro tests in early spring and do light hacking. Depending on how he develops, he might be kept lightly ticking through the summer next year, or he might get turned away if he needs it.

Good luck and hope the viewing goes well tomorrow x
