Hopeless with bitting

I have to say that despite the fact I would call my stable/horse management knowledge pretty good, my knowledge of bitting is really lacking. I would like to read-up to gain a bit more education in this area. Does anyone know of any sources (preferably online) which would give a good overview and examples of types of bit and their preferred usage?

I think this website is brilliant http://www.sustainabledressage.com/tack/bridle.php as the explanations and diagrams are really clear (although the author clearly has some strong opinions )
