Just seen on the fixtures list, although schedule still to be updated the small classes have gone from the class list

So that's the last of the central Scotland grass roots events gone

Oh you are having a giraffe :mad:
Off to tweet BEDE with my thoughts!

This is appalling, I live next to the M90 motorway in east central Scotland, the current BE calendar now has NO BE90 or 100 events within 1.5 hour drive. There are now NO venues in Fife, Perthshire, Midlothian or West Lothian for grassroots riders

What is the BE rep for Scotland doing about this?? The "In your region" page on the BE site hasn't been updated in months for Scotland & The North, how are we supposed to be informed on the changes in our region and how do we communicate how unacceptable this is???

I've been stoic about my passion for eventing and until now I couldn't quite understand why people might not renew their membership, however this has been a bit of a light bulb moment for me. Although I could conceivably compete every weekend from Burgham at the end of March until Aske at the end of September, more than half the events I have pencilled in my calendar are over the border. This not only means more cost in fuel but also the cost of taking time off work (self-employed), time away from home/family, stabling at the events, livery for the horse I might need to leave at home...least of all the additional strain of my horses travelling for much longer in the lorry than before.

Seriously though, what can we do about it???

The sad thing is we are losing some of the really nice events Scone and Hexham were 2 favourites of mine. Many of the events left for me to go to are now ones which run twice a year over various portables that appear at several events. That just doesn't have the same appeal to me

So BE site is now showing them as back on.

Did someone press the wrong button at BE or the right button at the wrong time?

After hearing this news I decided to tweet BEDE as no point in playing on the rumour mill until the hard facts are established. This was their reply:

"Hopetoun still running 90 and 100 classes and looking at options to develop and improve. #fromthehorsesmouth"

If anyone going to know it will be them and they have said it in black & white.:D

I was sure I had seen them listed the other day - I am not going mad then! Very fishy though...

And what has happened to that announcement regarding Scottish BE events that was meant to be made early this week? I will give them until tomorrow and then I am emailing!

** BREAKING NEWS - British Eventing 2013 **
The organisers of Hopetoun International have announced they no longer intend to host BE90 or BE100 level classes during their July fixture.
The competition on July 26-28 will now only cater for Novice, CIC*, CIC** and CIC*** competitors.
Full story to follow in The Courier

Humm ...not sure about #fromthehorsesmouth , more like #talkingouthis****

They are running the smaller classes at the new june event they are running there so #getoveryourself

You don't think it's rather misleading to make a big splash about a new event (which is great) but not mention at the time that the small classes would be axed from July?

The comment on Twitter from BEDE was in response to a direct question about whether the small classes were running in July.

Bede have emailed everyone on their mailing list so it is correct i think they have been very upfront about this.

It is a loss but they are running at the end of June.

Actually if you look at the BE announcement on 23rd Jan it already omitted the lower classes from the July date

" Hopetoun International (2) on 27th – 28th July have added a CIC* to their Novice, Open Novice CIC2* and CIC3*classes"

I think the right button was pressed at the wrong time after all

Email I received today:

There have been several events lost in Scotland, so it was great news that HOPETOUN will host a grass roots event at the end of June. There are major building projects at Hopetoun so we will be unable to run 5 sections in July, the June event will therefore enable us to continue to support grass roots riders.

HOPETOUN will host CIC1*, CIC2* and CIC3* in July. This year there are some MAJOR changes to the site. All stabling and parking will now be in the park, with Dressage on the flat arenas, and Show Jumping in front of the house on the lawn. Those who have been to Hopetoun will agree that this will be an amazing backdrop to the event. We hope that with 3 international classes many will make the trip north. We will also be increasing the prize money so hopefully it will be well worth the trip. We are very grateful to GILLESPIE MACANDREW for their continuing sponsorship, helping the event to grow. This year the event will be re named Hopetoun Town and Country Fair, this will see an increase in other activities at the event.

Sounds great.

There's only one BE venue full stop (let alone grassroots) within a 1.5 hour drive of me. This is why I've turned to BS. That, and the fact its just gone ridiculously expensive to event.
