My mare is pretty dominant with the other mares in the field, has been seen trying to occasionally mount one of them and has become erratic in her ridden work, especially jumping.

I spoke to my vet and she was tested for ovarian cysts earlier this year but the tests were clear. He suggested trying her on regumate but, at the time, I wanted to wait until she'd gone through a her first season of the year - just in case it was a tricky first one.

Things haven't really changed, although she's still great to hack and school, but I'm aware that my field companions are being very tolerant of her her behaviour towards their mares.

Have you ever used regumate with success for a mare like mine?
Did you find something else that worked?

Any ideas welcome!

Personally I think I'd try something like agnus Castus before Regimate as its natural and used widely to regulate mares/humans hormones, plus it's cheap!

I use NAF Oestress when my mare first comes into season as she gets nappy and a pain in the field too, seems to work pretty well but then again it coinsides with the start of the event season which always seems to put her in a good mood anyway! 😂 My instructor recommended it as she teaches someone who's mare is on it most of the year and said it made an amazing difference, it's completly herbal and won't do any harm so nothing to loose by trying it!

Thank you for your replies. Will definitely try some alternatives before we go medical! 😉
