Hormonal Mare - I give up, which supplement?

Really thought we had got it back together this year, until her first season

She is now out 24/7, bought in at tea time for a couple of hrs and ridden and given her balancer with a bit of quiet mix.

Hacked her tonight, and what a silly madam, had some lovely passage, and even some piaffe! Absolutely full of beans bouncing around, however quietly I sat, we were out with a very quiet pony and apart from hormones there was no excuse for her behaviour.

There are a couple of stallions on the yard, and we did pass one of them on the way out for our hack, not sure whether they are making her worse

But anyway, am going to get her on a supplement - So which one????

I have previously had her on hormonal mare, which did work, then seemed to have less effect, then on Slut Mix, which she came off for winter.

NAF Oestress has been recommended? Any others?

I know a couple of people who've had a lot of success with their moody mares - vast improvement with marble inserted. Worth asking your vet about perhaps?

Is it her first season of the year...as they can be problematic as the hormones are in transition...first and last seasons are.
Giving her Regumate will require her to be examined by the vet...and I wouldn't put a horse on it all the time...it is very strong and will be very expensive.
I used it on my mare when needed...if she was very flighty and getting in a stew about it...then she would be given a couple of squirts (as per dosage) and she would be finished by next day and back to normal...season finished. This was with my vet's ok.
It is very strong and women mustn't touch it.
Regumate basically stops the season...so if there is a problem it will just start again when you finish with it...and not really know what is going on.
Would be worth having a read up on it...and discuss with vet as it can't be given out without vet exam.

I use Hormonize on my mare, who sounds very similar to yours. It seems to work well for her.

I did a post asking about regumate in the vet bit the other day. My mares a nightmare and i've had her on oestress but it hasn't made any difference at all. She's a saint normally but when she's in season she'll plant herself, crush you against walls etc so am now looking to use regumate.

If you go down regumate route ask your vet to prescribe the version of regumate for pigs (I'm not joking!!!!). It is the same as equine version but much cheaper as apparently horsey people have more money to spend than pig farmers! Worked for my mare (Now I know why her tail has a cute little kink in it) (oink) LOL

Ive tried the NAF Oestress for now, will see how that goes, but will def enquire about regmate for pigs then!
