Hi All,

Hormonal mares! Which supplements do you swear by? She's a good girl but for a couple of days of her season is clearly uncomfortable (only really shows when walking down hill).

Trying to avoid regumate for the moment.

Also, seems a bit of an old fashioned method, but has anybody had success with marbelling a mare?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think I have ever given a mare a supplement we just work round the odd day when they are a little off, if yours is not showing any more than a bit of discomfort for a couple of days why would you want to start on regumate or be thinking of using a marble, they will help if the mare is a problem but yours just sounds as if an easy day or two every month would be the best way to manage her, if she is a top level competition horse then maybe look into it further.
It is probably an old fashioned view but I tend to leave well alone as interfering can set off other issues that may be more undesirable, I am not keen on trying to change something that is natural if it is not damaging for the horse and only an inconvenience to the owner.

Echo BP, one of my oldies used to have a few days each season where she didn't get on with flatwork but was otherwise ok so I generally just worked around it. If yours is similar I would try to just be accommodating.

My competition mare now is almost unrideable during the build up to her first season of the year so she gets regumate to help as it lasts for so long (6 weeks or so) and she's really very difficult otherwise.

I am not convinced by marbles and my vets advised against one.
