My mare appears to be wanting to come into season, she can be quite stressy/agitated generally and havnt had her more than a couple of months yet, but imagine her seasons are a nightmare! Can horses come into season this time of year?

Also what supplements are recommened? I was given a thing of Oestress to try although i know vets tend to not like NAF products because of what is it in them, interested what you have used?

Thanks!

I'm giving my mare the hormone jab - lasts 6 months apparently but she's in season every 5 mins so will be £40 well spent (when you add up supps!)

I use NAF Oestress and it works for my mare. I think the seasons usually dwindle during Winter, shes definitely not as flirty as the warmer months. I can tell when she is in season due to the "fishy" smell to her wee in the stable. She has in the past had a foal so I thinks shes more tuned into her body anyway. February last year was when she definitely came into full blown season, just generally excitable and silly. I feed Oestress all year round, gave it a rest last Winter and think it was a mistake as last Feb she chucked me off in the school being spooky and bucked like a nutter.

Out of interest, my vets do like the NAF products.

A mare on my yard was actually recommended Oestress by a vet,
and i have to say it seems to work very well for her.

She used to be an absolute nightmare all year round shes much more settled now and leaves my geldings alone!

you could get the vet to jab her to stop coming into season! works ok unless you got a proper tart!!! you could add regumate from vets to reduce hormonal behaviour. if you dont want to breed you could ask your vet to put a marble in (cheapest long term option), try to keep your mare separate from geldings including fence contact.

my mare is a nightmare in season but on oestress she is so much better you can hardly tell when she is in season , can't recommend it enough. my friend also keeps hers on it with the same results.

mine is in season at the moment - has been a nightmare since geldings were moved into the field next door.
