Have looked up the post about this already on here, but quite short so canvassing for some more recent thoughts.

My horse has recently started grinding his teeth a bit when being ridden. Horrible noise. I have booked the dentist to come and have a look as he's also a bit troublesome with having the bit put in his mouth, but today when I went to take his bridle off he did an enourmous grind - set all my teeth on edge. He opened his mouth ok and let the bit come out - I'm always careful to not bang him or anything.

I had his back checked only last month so it shouldn't be discomfort there although I realise that can change.

Has anyone else experienced this and what did you find it was down to?

In general this is a stress/tension response, I used to have a horse that did this, he was a very tricky stressful character

I'm getting my horse's back and teeth checked over next week as he's started grinding at times when we start schooling (usually with one particular bit) amongst other things which make me think he's got jaw or poll discomfort or something coming through from the back. I have no problem with putting the bit in though.

My old boy used to grind his teeth - it started off as a stress thing, which he started when he first went hunting, but it became a bit of a habit.

It is a really horrible noise though - I know what you mean.
