My hands are all dry and rough and the Mud seems to start staining the drier skin so may hands look awful. How do you all keep your hand soft and attractive?!

having horses means you'll never have soft and clean looking hands! i've given up trying to hide the ingrained mud:rolleyes:. wear gloves as much as possible on the yard, scrub with a nail brush when i get home and go through tubes of hand cream like there is no tomorrow! the thin cotton gloves you wear overnight once you've slapped on some cream do help alot.

I hate the brown stains that make it look as though you haven't washed your hands! It's got worse as I've got older! Ill try cream and gloves overnight to see if that helps- the OH will think I'm crazy sleeping in gloves

I work in a hospital as well as being out on the yard, so my hands suffer a lot! I swear by Aveeno handcream, it actually works as a bit of a barrier as well as a moisturiser. It was on 3 for 2 in boots last week...might still be now!

Last winter my hands were awful looking, I used Palmers Cocoa Butter hand cream from Tesco for £2.99 (Big bottle!) and it's great! I put it on last thing at night before I went to sleep and it definitely made a difference :)

Love EA eight hour cream as well
Clean hands using that gritty rub stuff for feet when you are going out ( I hate that stained hand look too) .
Olive oil hands in plastic bag and rub and rub under duvet when watching tv in bed .
Lots of cream or vaseline and cotton gloves overnight .
Gloves as much as poss on the yard and this year I have tried applying sudocrem before going on yard as a barrier I think it helps.
Lots of hand cream about the place so you can apply when ever you remember.

Lol, I was just looking at mine this morning thinking eughhh …. For me it the inside of my thumb and the inside of the next finger … constantly cracked skin and look like ive not washed in months … wear gloves as much as possible but they look OLD!!! :(

Do you mean wearing gloves makes you look old ?
I will warn you that by the time you are in your fifties a life with horses makes you have the hands of a seventy year old the gloves are the lesser evil.

sounds like my hands! got a microfibre cloth attached to my finger the other day , hands like velcro!!:o I used to use the neutrogena hand cream but it's not doing the job anymore, now i just slap on royal jelly and honey cream constantly to stop the painful cracks appearing.

Norwegian formula hand cream. but yes, it's been a bad winter for hands cracking. Try to avoid the washingup at home too (or wear rubber gloves).

Mine are the same - I think I must wash my hands 30 times per day and that coupled with the horrible weather really has taken it's toll, my hands look like they belong to an 80 year old! I've started using Weleda Skin Food & although it stinks terrible it is helping - using some under those night-time gloves would probably work very well.

My hairdresser recommended a cream - really helps with cracks. Its called Cetraban (?) - you buy it in Boots at the pharmacy counter and its really cheap. The packaging is a little clinical but the cream is excellent.

there is no other word for my hands other than - vile! With my work I have to shake hands quite a bit and I absolutely dread it! It must feel disgusting shaking hands with someone who has hands that look and feel like a tortoise.

I find putting a thick hand cream on before doing the horses and wearing gloves helps. I've just had a baby and its really embarrassing having dirty looking hands!

Savlon! Is the best. As a nurse with constant hand washing I get very dry hands and this stuff works a treat!

Lots of replies here.

I have had to discipline myself to put hand cream on every night before I go to sleep. I like vaseline intensive care but also the Scholl overnight foot cream is great for hands as I found by accident!!

If you can afford one a parafin wax bath for both hands and feet is fantastic. Homedics make one. Immerse your hands in warm wax, cover with a plastic bag and peel off when dry.

Another vote for alveno cream! Fantastic stuff, gloves and gloves at night and sudacream and socks for my feet cos they are worse than my hands  rubbish wellies!!!! I look well attractive at bed time :D

This is how my hands are.. i use avon intensive moisture at night.. its too thick to use during the day but its brilliant..

Dr Hauschka! It's a good old-fashioned type hand cream with lanolin, reminds me of my grandmother! but it works really well.

I use my exfoliating gloves on my hands gently in the shower to get rid of any rough skin. I use Berkeley Square Rose Petal body lotion on my hands, it's the best moisturiser I have ever used and keeps my hands so soft! I have to do this everyday though, at least twice a day, miss a couple of days and my hands get all rough again.

Another one with "velcro" hands here :( Not helped that my execema has gone mental lately too... I digress. Gloves are a must when at the yard - stops so much of the ingrained dirt. And I can recommend Garnier's intensive 7 day nourishing hand cream for dry, rough hands. My hands are SO much more improved. I have several tubes all over the place so I can apply it as and when :)

Burt's bees almond hand cream is fab stuff with 99.something% natural ingredients - It's quite thick and takes a while to rub in if you put too much on but is very soothing and protecting. Love it!
