Horribly lame

my mare suddenly became lame yesterday. I walked her in from the field and she was fine. I groomed her and tacked her up she was fine. I took her into the arena and she was fine. I pulled down my stirrups and tightened my girth and she was terribly lame!!!!!! I have no idea what happened.. Her fetlock is swollen but there in no heat.

If I hand walk her she starts to move much better and by the end of 5 mins she is sound. a soon as we stop for a min. she walks off crippled again.

I put on a clay poultice and wrapped her over night. I am nervous to go and she her this morning.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? This is the most bizzare lameness I have experienced!

Get the vet! I don't know why people think of this forum as an alternative to proper medical attention for a horse they are so concerned about. It's just weird.

i had the vet yesterday. She said bute, wrap and wait and see how she is this morning!

I guess some people just want to talk to like minded people who have experienced similar things, as a form of therapy!!

Hmm, could be anything at this stage tbh. When is the vet coming back?

Is your horse shod.

I wonder if it could be good old fashioned gravel??

Ah, perhaps it would have helped to say she had been seen by the vet! What did the vet say to do if there is no improvement?

vet is coming back tomorrow unless I call her sooner.

Amymay, she is shod and the vet was thinking similar to you, but there is no heat anywhere!!

We are thinking of getting the chiropractor out to see if she has a little misalignment .

I posted on here last month about my horse - and the fact that I was convinced he' 'done' a tendon.

The vet the next day wasn't terribly sure - no heat anywhere, but horribly lame. So he asked for my farrier to come and look.

Took shoe off, stuck knife in foot - foot exploded with pus! I've never been so happy in all my life.

Worth getting your farrier out perhaps??

Thank you AmyMay. My mare is much better today. The epsom salts or clay poultice did some good..The swelling is down and she is 90% sound. My farrier is coming out on Wednesday for a routine shoeing, so the timing is great.

BTW - where in wales are you? I am going to be living in Wales for a few months when I return home. My folks live not far from Llanelli.
