My OH just came running up to the lounge window (he was in the garden with the dogs) gesticulating like mad and generally being more animated than I've ever seen him

Two seconds later Ruby (new vizsla) comes flying into the lounge at about mach 10 with Nala (laid back useless vizsla) in hot pursuit... for once they weren't actually wrestling but Ruby seemed to be in 'escape' mode...

On closer inspection amid the chaos of OH bouncing up and down and banging on the window and the dogs running around the lounge at the speed of light I just made out a bit of wing sticking out of Ruby's mouth

It turns out she stalked, caught (and has now eaten

) a whole pigeon

She has always been bad at relinquishing stolen property (OH has been bitten a couple of times) and there was NO WAY she was giving up a bird- not even for a fair wedge of premium cheddar

Does anyone genuinely feed the barf diet? How many problems will eating a whole (very fresh!) pigeon cause her insides? Should I take her to the vets?

You should be reported.....don't you know it's illegal to hunt with dogs!!

I am sure she will be fine. Dexter used to find the decaying corpses of rabbits and eat them, he also has a problem with giving them up. They didn't ever do him any harm.

Ali - she'll be fine - truly! I really do feed Barf and even before I switched, mine would eat anything she caught or found (however long it had been dead!). Don't worry at all

Really dont worry, my old lurcher caught a pigeon in the back garden once and ate the whole thing (apart from the feet

) - apparently he growled so meaningfully at my ex-OH that he thought it was safer to leave him to it

There were absolutely no side effects, and the lurcher was normally fed all-in-one

She'll be fine as long as you didn't feed any commercial diet near it!

Feed companies listen up she has just eaten a healthy complete meal!

Feathers beak and claws = Roughage plus meat, bones, a bit of veg and tripe, heart, brawn, liver you name it she swallowed it!!! Good girl there are far too many of those virmin about anyway!

Mine will catch a rabbit and eat it but they will only kill and leave pigeons, but they love em skinned! lazy lot don't like plucking the feathers!

I feed my dog on raw food, he's also an out & out preditor, who's caught & eaten several pheasants, pidgeons & rabbits.
I find it disgusting but he's very healthy.
When he catches a rabbit he eats it whole starting with the head!
I just make sure he's wormed regularly.
