Horrid evening! :(

Really hope she has made it through the night and you can give us some good news.
All so would be interested as to whether maybe a link or was it just stress from the first going down i wonder.

Thank you so much for your comments. Good news :) She made it through the night and isn't showing any more signs of colic. She has to stay for today so they can keep an eye on her. But if she is ok, she can come home tomorrow! They arent turned out in the same field. They have just moved on to their winter paddocks which have been resting for a couple of months. The first mare is prone to this and the same happened last year, although she is only turned out for a couple of hours (just for a week or so to get used to grass, then she is out all day) the second Horse has never had colic before.

Colic really is horrible. I have never seen anything as bad as this mare though, she was in agony :( was very sad to watch but didn't want to leave my friend.

That is the good thing about my yard, everyone pulls together and heps out. I wasn't the only livery to stay and help. There was YM and 5 liveries including myself.

Blimey! Glad she's ok. When I move to winter grazing, I put muzzles on mine for 2 hours (then they go back to bare paddock), then half a day, then overnight (they live out), then I take the muzzle off for some of that time...then overnight...and I call it 'weaning them onto grass'. For me it's different reasons (one lami prone, one sweet itch), but is there a possibility your yard could do similar?

How horrible. So glad that the horse is doing well, and I hope she makes a full recovery. Also glad to here the other horse is okay too.

Sounds like a lovely yard too.

Yes colic is horrid.

I lost my beloved pony to this and my friend her young 3 year old.

Turns out in both cases the intestines went through the gut wall I rushed her to Potter Bar and she made it

6 weeks later it happened again. This time she did not.

All horses have a hole in their gut wall. Some its unusually big and this is whats happened . Poor Bonny was the sweetest pony I could ask for, that is what makes it so hard when My other friend who I bought her from gave me Bonnies son. But the boyfriend stole him ( details in missing horses section)

Sending hugheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee vibes

We do not have a bare paddock, however we are allowed to turn out in the school. My friend is putting a muzzle on her Horse from now on and also limiting her grazing. She had this last year. The second owner hasn't said much about the turnout as she is still probably in shock. She did ask could she buy some of my shavings as she now wants to take her Horse of straw incase she eats it.

good news is good news so glad that shes ok. Can understand the shock of her owner. Hope she makes a full recovery. Your yard as others have already said sounds fabulous makes such a difference when people are prepared to muck in.
