Horrid, Horrid pony.

I am clearly a horrid and cruel person, but I stamp pretty hard on behaviours such as biting and kicking which are dangerous, whether theres and underlying issue or not! I can be in agony with my back or knee and I dont bite or kick other people as I know its not acceptable!

I'm a bit more lenient with ridden issues when I dont know if there is a physical issue, but with a stroppy pony that had been checked out, I would happily tan its ass! There are far, FAR too many problem ponies that end up slaughtered or passed from home to home. Therefore for me at least, its black and white! No aggressive behaviour in hand, no dangerous behaviour under saddle, for a horse you can express your unhappiness in other ways than dangerous behaviour. And if it then turns out theres no physical issue then its a butt kicking all round!

Ditto this. Laura seems to be doing a very good job with this guy, and because of her he'll have a good future.

There is no place for pussy footing around when you have a horse/pony that continually takes the piss.

actually, i commented once. It was directed to the OP. Iv never read any posts from this poster & took it as read, now that i see the other posts I see its tongue and cheek..... the second post I merely replied to your question. I dont have any cure-all answers for this posters problem but I certainly wouldnt punish my horse by hurting it in the mouth. Yes, maybe your horse will work this way but i prefer my horse to work with me because she wants to, not because she is being bullied into it.....so theres my point, if it wasnt clear before.

Ah Laura, the Horrid one really does love you you know, he just likes to, um, check every now and then ...

Dizz does the 'lead with shoulder in direction of gate' and if the rider doesn't explain with a tap down the shoulder, very soon it's no longer leading, more a 'plunging, bouncing, leaping irriate towards the gate'. A tap on the shoulder and she's back somewhere between hand and leg, with all thoughts of breakfast firmly back in their spot

Nope, not tongue in cheek at all. Pony was being an opinionated little git, situation could quite easily have got very dangerous very quickly, so short sharp shock and voila, his attention was where it should be, back on me, not where it was, anywhere but knuckle down to abit of hard graft!

Exactly. There are boundaries, and allowing an animal to cross those lines is dangerous.
