so my little coloured colt has decided he wants friends that make him itch. Although when i checked i couldnt see them, i then checked yesterday and found a couple went to see my friend when i went back you cant miss em hes crawling. I hate these little lice. When My 3 yard old had them once they were gone in a week but she was a fine coated sec d easy to get the nit comb on. he is a hairy winter coated cob. arrgggg any suggestions as the best soloution? I know what soloutions there are but what is the best from your experience and quickest.


also can we catch them coz im paranoid about nits now lol :

A flute or whistle, if you Google 'pied piper of hamlyn' you should get some good tips on getting the lice to follow you away from horse to a more louse friendly haven.
 
Ps, you can catch them on open fields, but if they go to ground you'll need a terrier or ferret. Not amazingly fast runners but good at finding bolt holes.
 
the nit comb did the trick to be fair we obviously shampooed and powdered her as standard she quite like all the attention.

when i asked whats best? i was thinking more like the brands etc. lice powder and shampoo is obviously the way forward but do any work better than others.
 
You seriously nit combed an entire section D? Christ it takes me long enough to come my 9 year old childs head.
I would think louse powder would be much more effective (and less time consuming?!)

I thought louse powder wasn't supposed to be very effective.

When my incredibly hairy mare had them I used Coopers Fly Repellent, after a recommendation on here. Fab stuff. Followed the instructions to the letter though - several treatments at suitable intervals and using it to wipe down rugs.

i did lice powder and also lice shampooed her she is now 3yrs old and was when she was about 18 months so we set about going through her main with a nitcomb it didnt take like days it was a sunny day and there was not much else to do i enjoy spending as much time with her as possible and thats how that started and as funny as it may seem it worked and she didnt have any visable dead eggs for weeks after but i would still like to stress that i did use lice powder and shampoo too and it wasnt a hassle it was quite nice really. anyway im gathering there is no prefered brands.
apart from the fly spray which i will be trying too that sounds like a good soloution for like the brushes and round the stable tooo
 
i can imagine sat looking at some sort of device in his stable laughing think tasso would think oh shes off again lol nia thinks its normal for me to do daft things usually dancing round to pink

yeah or that but we were outside rather than in stable lol ok so as you all now think im crazy i may aswell mention my winter coat getterouter is my dogs furminator which is really good at quickly getting it all out to the point that my friends went and bought some for theres lol im not crazy really promise but you have to try these things or you never no.
 
dont forget to wash all grooming brushes and sprinkle louse powder on the inside of all rugs. also you need to repeat washing and powdering the horse in 2 weeks:D
 
My yearling got them a few weeks ago - annoying little ******s!

I managed to get rid of them within 2 weeks by bathing with dermoline once, covering rugs in Battles louse powder for 11 days (which is the life cycle of the lice) and then bathing again after 11 days to ensure any eggs that resisted the first wash are killed.

I also applied powder for another week just in case and of seems to have worked a treat :)

there some brill tips thank you once ive shined ill nit comb mane

its slightly chilly to bath tho he has now been powdered and is going to get powdered again on sat just for extra umph and then in two weeks thanks for the tips
