i didnt see it, but there have been several cases of horses spooking whist owners open gates next to cattle grids, the horseshave run onto the cattle grids and snapped most of their legs off, very horrific!! one time the horse had to wait in pain and misery for a fair few hours until a local huntsman could arrive to shoot the him as the vets wouldnt come out to put it to sleep, its a long story!!

A friend had a similar accident where there was a 8 ft hedge either side of a cattle grid they had to cross. The hunt had put down some boards over the grid and the horses where made to cross as it was the only way round the fields. Her horse is a cob x shire heavyweight at just over a tonne heavy. Bearing in mind it had rained the night before so the boards where wet. He fell down and got his back legs (both by the way) stuck between the slats, they had the vet and two fire engines out to sedate him and cut the grid open. He had to then be lifted via tractor to get him out. As for the damage it did his back legs were buggered excuse the french. the vets told us he would never be ridden again but 2 years down the line we can now ride him as we have done in the past and as for hunting no action was taken and he was not fazed by the insodent as he is now a hunt masters horse. hope this helps
