Thank you for all the advice yesterday. I spoke to Ada's owner yesterday and basically said that I wasn't confident taking her on Monday
She looked very deflated but we had a great chat.
Her owner knows that Ada is a handful and was hoping that I might be able to help. We spoke about all her good points and I said I am more than happy to carry on riding her, hacking, schooling and dressage, but I am just not good enough to sort out her jumping issues.
SO - I rode her other horse and she rode Ada just in walk down the lane. It was really good for her owner since she has real confidence issues and the fact that she got on her after her antics the day before is a major step. We then swapped over and I schooled her. She went BEAUTIFULLY
I think it is just she is REALLY green jumping (and she is a typical ginger mare!). We now have an action plan, the time of year isn't great since she is season and the grass is very lush. I will continue to school her on the flat and ride out locally on her. Later in the summer we are going to take her for a jumping lesson at her owner's god-daughters (amazing skilled trainer). Her trainer can have a spin and, if I feel confident I can have a little go to or alternatively take her back another day for a lesson. Saddler and back man are due in the next two weeks any way so even though i don't think it is pain, we can be doubly sure.
For Monday, we are either going to
*take her other horse and I will borrow one of my better behaved 'spares' on the sponsored ride.
*find a dressage competition to take Ada to
*go out in the lorry to a nice hacking place and have a sedate plod to build confidence for both of us
Thanks again for all the advice, I don't want to give up on her but I think you have to build these things up slowly. We are also putting aside an hour for bit-shopping at badminton to improve brakes.
Thanks all
