Had the 3 dogs out on Saturday up at Scrabo when a wee lab bitch came up to us. Poor thing was horrendously skinny and very young looking (just a smidge taller than my 8 month lab) she was very nevry to begin with but soon came round and walked to heel with me, enjoying the attention I was giving her. I was a smitten kitten to say the least!

So I decided to take her to the vet and get her checked out for a microchip. Unfortunately no chip. Took her home (vet estimated about 12months old and had probably been starved for a while then dumped) gave her a small feed while starting to phone round and see if she'd be reported missing. Then phone local animal sanctuary and asked if they could take her in.

No was the answer, we don't take strays (

Totally horrified by this.

Finally got the number for dog warden who has taken her to Carryduff USPCA sanctuary. Although I have met a woman who said if she is not claimed within 6 days she will go and legally adopt her. I so hope whoever was cruel enough to dump this poor wee thing does not try and get dog back (I called her Raven

) and that this lovely woman will be able to rehome her.

Wish I could take her though.

I know, isn't it shocking? The area around Srabo is all country roads and you know what boy racers can be like

They just fly around that area.

I just hope this woman can give her a home for life. She told me to stay in contact and if she gets ehr that I can come and see her whenever I want

When my year old rough collie slipped his lead and ran off looking for a girlfriend, I spent two hours looking for him in the rain, then drove around for another hour. Had a sleepless night and first thing in the morning I phoned the local dog home and the dog warden and left my details. 5 minutes later my phone rang and it was a woman who had taken my boy in. When I went to collect him, she said that the dog warden had told her to let him go, saying that he would find his way home. We were both horrified at this as she lived beside a busy road. Don't know what dog wardens are paid for if they won't go and pick up a stray. My boy is microchipped so they could have contacted me at the time even though he didn't have a collar on thus saving us both a horrible night. After he ran off a couple of times more, he had the 'snip' and has never run off again.

Something similar happened with me and the police just before Christmas.

Two beautiful staffie crosses came in the work and found their way to my office

I took them down to the police station two buildings down as they were too boistrous to keep in the office with me whilst I waited for the pound to come and get them.

I was told in no certain terms that the police would not take them in - and if I couldn't hold on to them let them go.......

I'm afraid that I wouldn't take no for an answer, and insisted on speaking to the duty seargent - who duly took them off my hands and had someone take them immediately to the pound.

Dogs were collected later that morning by their very relived and upset owners.

If they couldn't help then they should have given you the number for the USPCA (not the loony advice they did come up with)!!
Let us know what happens if you can.
Fingers crossed all works out for the poor little thing.
