Fabio is still carrying a little more weight than i'd like, he's been kept fully clipped but his last clip has grown out and needs re-doing (will be done at the weekend). Until now he's just been in a 100g T/O and been warm in that. He's a warm horse anyway, never known a horse as warm as him! Have put him back in a sheet this week as he's got more coat in the hope it might help shift a few pounds. He's not cold, can still feel some warmth at the base of his coat when i've checked him. He does have mild shivers though and i know that most will over rug to keep them warm to help with this. He needs to lose a bit of weight but i don't want this to be at the detriment to his shivers. Just wondered if anyone else has had the same issue? He's only fed a small handful of chaff for his vit E supplement to go in on a night and has ad lib hay (absolutely zero grass in the winter paddock). Soaking the hays not an option as he's out with my OH's horse who although not a poor doer, doesn't need to drop any weight. He's out 24/7 with a field shelter. Exercise wise at the moment is around 5 times a week, varies week on week dependant on weather but i make sure its no less than 4. Mixture of lunging and schooling during the week, then hack and maybe a jump session at the weekends.
Any advice welcome.
