Hi, Just wondered if anybody had rehomed a horse from a rescue centre. Are there centres you would recommend and what have your experiances been?
Thinking of rehoming a rescue horse in the future.
Thanks

I have a tb from the Blue Cross. Lovely mare, just lacking a bit in confidence when hacking on her own, but it's improving. I would definitely recommend. Horse World are a bit restrictive in how far away they will loan horses, but Blue Cross and RSPCA are more realistic.

Best thing is that any problems the horse has are honestly explained so you don't get any nasty surprises when you get them home. They work hard to match you up as they'd rather not have horses returned after a few weeks.

I would go for it.

Not me personally but my old YO and good friend got her ponies from WHW. One was a 12.2hh cobx and is a little superstar, has taken the YO's daughter from RS to showing at county level, doing PC activities and doing lots of jumping etc. She also got a companion shetland youngster who she has just broken in to ride. They sounded great and matched the girl to the pony as she originally went to see another but they didn't get along.

I think it'd be worth a try looking at local rescue centres first, as well as the larger ones like WHW, Blue Cross and HorseWorld. Good luck with your search :)

I have had two companion horses from Horseworld near Bristol. They are very honest in their descriptions of the horses and any issues they have, and continue to take a real interest in the horses once you have them.

I have my boy Levi from Whw it was a simple process homecheck, view horse and follow up visits every six months or so and nice to know I have back up for advice etc.
