horse adverts that just miff you off

Annielusian what is your issue with "has done everything"?

My old pony which I sold earlier this year quite literally had done everything - showing, endurance, hunting, games, SJ, dressage, ODE...

My main gripe is dodgy photos and overpriced horses.

Why not? The horse is probably a total star for putting up with it, and once you have got him home you obviously won't be doing it so no problem, and, in addition, you can feel all warm and fuzzy because you've rescued him from a frightful home;) :) (Note the smiley please)

When you find a nice horse and ring them too find out it sold weeks ago.. why keep the advert up?! Guilty of that one I am afraid. Perhaps, like me, thay advertise in a lot of places and have just forgotten to cancel one - or - if it is in a magazine the horse sold before it went to print - that's happened too, completely unavoidable :(

Ooh, no, I meant horses younger than 3 that'd done everything, seems unfair. If I saw that on an older horses ad, I'd be drawn to it ^^

There really is only one thing that irritates me and that's when people write that if the horse does not sell then they're taking it to auction/slaughterhouse. That immediately makes me move onto the next advert as I can't be doing with emotional blackmail.

Irritating, I agree, but that emotional stuff has no effect on me whatsoever as half the time it is wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen to the horse.

I don't want to have to phone people up just to get basic information such as height, age etc. Wastes my time and the owners.
 
The only thing that winds me up is the lack of a decent stood up, side on photo for conformation. Why on earth would you sell a horse without one, unless it's a cut and shut job.

POA is unhelpful but wouldn't put me off.
 
"Has seen traffic" - a car went past the end of the yard while the horse was in the adjacent field, but it's never actually been hacked out.

"Never been known to buck or rear" - it has, otherwise why mention it?

"Needs competent rider" - nutter

"Placed every time out" - came third out of three in one outing..

"Professionally broken" - rush job by a dealer

I also hate poor photos - ones with the horse with it's head in a bucket, or grazing in a field wearing a full neck rug - although having said that I went to see one of these last week and ended up getting a bargain. If a decent confo shot had been put on the seller would have easily got twice the price......
 
The ad's that get me is of yougnsters/foals that are not even broken & the ad says 'Will make fantastic showjumper/dressage horse' but how do they no it will :)
 
I like adverts that are truthful!! That is all I ask :)

For instance- how many adverts carry the line- potential superstar, could go far, future olympic star in the right hands....you get the idea

....now I dont mind this if the horse in question actually is a potential olympic star, but looking at some of the adverts I think not!!

Also- I dont want a superstar- I want a normal fun horse that isnt going to WEG but will be safe and enjoy low level competing!:D
 
I have to agree with pretty much all of the above although did read one advert I think 2 years ago when I was horse hunting and it had me in fits of laughter.

Think it was on horse deals. A lady was selling her mare because her daughter collected animals/horses and they had no time for her. By the end of the advert (did waffle a bit) she basically said ' sod it I'm keeping my horse but feel free to come view my daughter'.

Did chuckle lol.

I'd rather not line the pockets of an idiot, they might go out and buy another horse to dis!

Because you can see it :confused: Most sporthorse breeders can spot very quickly which disciplines each foal should excel in and even if they were a useless sporthorse breeder then if they checked out the bloodlines it would give them a good indication on where the foals strengths will be.

There's a dealer round here who advertises all her steeds either standing on their backs or lying flat out on their rump.

Likewise I think it looks rubbish!!
 
I can't stand poorly constructed ads, poor spelling and incorrect use of terminology. If a seller wants to be taken seriously then they need to present themselves and horsie in a serious fashion. :p

I also avoid ads that state 'super star potential' or 'future 3*** eventer' when the horse has done nothing of merit to back up these claims, and the seller is using a picture that makes the horse look like a donkey!

i thought at first she was advertising a TB for her friend, then halfway through i thought it was a cob then by the end i thought maybe it was the yard. totally lost me!

My take on it was that she already has her slightly nutty cob, but wants to jump so is buying her friends tb, which she is then going to look for a sharer for... May well not be, but that is how I read it :)

Once I had stopped trying to determine which hallucinogenic drug cocktai had inspired her to write that ad, I came to this conclusion as well... However, I think you'd need a PhD in Incomprehensible rambling Studies to translate the true meaning for definite.

The completely random photos certainly don't help - we have 2 photos of empty stables, 2 of fields with a jump in them, one 'jumping' photo and one of a horse who appears to be standing on a jump pole in the middle of a school - how bizarre :confused: :D

Though I like the 'full time education' with Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday off - so not really full time at all :D

ETA she's also on that site looking for a job... and mice :D
