I find it really funny when someone writes something like

Will only be sold to a home where his true talents will be realized

Like you really care what the horse does if someone pays you £40k for a horse just started BSJA.

LOL! I know exactly the ad that you're thinking of!! I saw it and thought the same!

I used to find it amusing when adverts said "Home more important than price"
Not any more. OH found an ad for a pony that sounded perfect for our daughter but way out of our price range. It had the home more important bit.
Wife emailed owner and explained our situation, great home but broke (due to horses) and didn't want to waste their time.
Owners suggested we bring daughter along to try pony anyway. Daugher fell in love with pony, owners fell in love with daughter.
We now have pony on loan. Guess some people do mean it.

I want to meet someone like that. Well done you for having the balls to do it. I would be too scared so i always get my sister to phone up the expensive ones

I did that with my horse!!!

She quite a bit over my price range (POA at bottom) but as she was local thought i would be cheeky and ring to find out anyway. Got chatting to the owner who knew where i was stabled etc and she seemed really nice but i said sorry but no thanks as i couldn't afford her.

A week later i got a note on my yards gate asking me to contact her. She decided that she wanted me to come and try her out anyway and was willing to drop the price for me.

I fell in love with her and ended up paying a bit more but not loads so everyone was happy. I got a bargin and owner had sold horse.

I can understand it actually - especially if the horse has been home bred and the breeders or trainers have a reputation to uphold.

If it was in at a sensible price I would agree with what you are saying.

In this case these people are dealers, and they are claiming that the horse will be a GP SJ or 4* eventer, if it truely was that good why is it only £40K?

I phoned up about a 'home more important than price' horse (where no price was specified). When I asked the price it was 9k for a 15hh 3yo - and they said the price was non-negociable!

On the other hand when I saw a horse at the Dublin show, the owner said he wasn't for sale, but might be in a month or so, so I tried him anyway, and loved him. And offered her all we could afford (3k). Some Americans saw me jumping him and offered her 10k. We said we couldn't possibly afford that much, but left her with our phone number. A few weeks later, the phone rang, and we were offered the horse for 3k - she said she wanted him to go to a hunting home who would keep in contact with her - and it was too hot for him in South USA

Couldnt believe that 40k ad- you can buy a very decent horse for that amount so why would you buy something with so little experience?? Just because its nice?!!

So you could give it the home it deserves...

Did you see the coloured pony on the same page located in Bath/Bristol - £6k, that apparently is a very serious jumper, hugley talented - was £10kish before xmas
