Had my horse vetted last week and the vet passed her but said he thought she might be a couple of years older than whats on her passport?? I said that my vet and dentist aged her as i had her passport done when she had major dental work as vet was out and saved cost. I totally trust my vet and dentist and they aged her airing on the side of caution anyway . The vetting vet said that they were probably right as its easier to age them when they are around 8 rather than 12 (her age now or so I thought)but he had to make a note of it on the form. Anyway it put the buyer off and I have now sold her again and she is being vetted again this week. I told the new buyers who were not too worried but how can they all disagree?? i would have said the dentist would be more accurate. Also he didnt use the gag to examin her teeth just looked in her mouth?

Anyone else had this??

If they dont buy her im not going through this again!!

No vet or dentist will commit themselves to an exact age as horses teeth can have such a variation. Unless your horse has breed papers you can't accurately prove age. I think though that the buyers of your horse were a bit silly to go to all the hassle of having the horse vetted and then turning it down on something fairly minor.

It was a first horse buyer with not much knowledge and tbh I think the vet thought she was more than a hack/novice horse as he told me that to. As they were not present he told me the outcome!!

No vet or EDT to accurately assess an animals age and guarantee it, they can only estimate.

I thought it was impossible to correctly age a horse after it's 7th year, I read that major changes to the teeth happen before then and after a horse is 7 their teeth don't change an awful lot.
