I am suffering terribly!

I am allergic to horses - in summer it only seems to be greys and chesnuts that bother me, in winter its everything! - hay, straw, dust etc etc!!

I take antihistamines every morning and night - have tried doubling up, I don't groom in the stable, I try not to touch my face, change clothes as soon as I arrive home.

Today for example, I've had my AH, gone to the yard, done jobs for one horse and bandaged her foot up  and just given the other one a quick brush and tacked up and schooled for 15 minutes (my M.E limits what I can manage) and I am streaming :( started sneezing at half 9 and its now 1pm and I'm still going!

At least I am getting into the festive spirit with a red nose :(:p

Is there any miracle cures/prevention or obscure things that people find help???

I used to be like this, from age 5 to 19...then all of a sudden it stopped. I still get the snuffles if I rub my eyes, or around the horses ALL day.

I can't really offer any advise, as I just ignored it, even though I'm sure it nearly killed me on more than one occasion XD

Anwyway, good luck!! I hope you get through it, I know how tough and horrible it is *hugs*

I'm similar, except I'm fine with horses, it's the dust, grass and hay that get me. No miracle cures I'm afraid. I'm on Grazax to try and help with my grass allergy as it's so severe but it's not openly available on the NHS. Aside from that I wear sunglasses whenever possible (not so helpful in this weather). Also smoothering vaseline round the bottom of my nose helps a little - it supposedly traps some of the allergens before they make it up your nose. Some antihistamines are also more effective then others so it's worth shopping around, and there are also nasal sprays (I've found Nasonex the best). Sorry no miracle cures :(

Thanks guys - I'm on Nasonex and every asthma inhaler going ;) I also have a little thing from Lloyds that goes up each nostril and is meant to help somehow but when I'm like this I can't stand anything in my nose.

When I used to have weekly lessons from 7 - 12 years old, I'd be so poorly for 4-5 hours afterwards couldnt open my eyes, urticaria all over my face and hands, sneezing the lot. I improved slowly as I got older and I'm a whole lot better now I'm around horses every day, but not as I'd like to be - I used to be AWFUL with my mums cob as he was a piebald :o

I just want to be comfortable! I tried wearing dust masks etc but that doesn't seem to help.

Get a curly, there hypoallergenic , I don't suffer, but I have had people who have had a bad reaction to horses in the past come and be around him and not reacted to him at all.

I used to suffer horribly with hayfever until someone told me about drinking elderflower tea over the winter months to bulid up a resisitance.
It worked and stopped the hayfever in it's tracks (I used to not be able to go out of the house)
I now drink elderflower cordial - high percentage elderflower needed - and also, now this is a bit yeuwch...when I fill hay nets or de mud/brush my horses, I stuff tissues up my nose until I have finished, then chuck them away to ride.
Best of luck
Bryndu:)

Have you tried antihistamines my little girl was very allergic to horses (horror) we tried all sorts of antihistamine and found that the only one that worked was cetirizine hydrochloride. , may be you could go back and talk to your doctor again.
