Horse and hound now charging to read news.

Paper publishing is slowly dying. H&H circulation has dropped by 13,000 since 2008. Not to mention that advertisers won't pay so much for a smaller reach.

For H&H to keep going, they have to find other income streams.

If they ever got their facts right it might be a goer.

However shoddy sycophantic journalism is not worth virtual space, let alone actual money.

The trouble is I think they play too safe. They need to do more investigative journalism on stories effecting the horse industry not just print a few short bland articles / interviews. Get contentious, ask awkward questions etc. Have articles written by people who dont toe the party line, recently they could have done articles really exploring the issues of owner. / rider set ups in the wake of the Ben Maher / Mike n Emma Philips situation. There is a huge amount of bad feeling on UKSJ about various issues to do with BS. They could do a story about what people do want from their governing bodies. They could act as a tour de force to champion issues relevant to the horse world ie fly grazing, transportation to slaughter as examples.
Safe = boring and unchallenging .
If they can't fill the magazine weekly with good quality articles and a decent amount of content that takes longer than 10 mins to read perhaps it should no longer be a weekly mag. they won't do well long term as there are so many other places to read the same thing.
