Who actually buys and reads H&H?

Buy and read rarely (almost never).

I used to devour H&H many, many years ago but it got less and less interesting, so I only bought it if there was something that caught my eye in it.

TBH, I've more or less stopped reading all horse mags, except the free ones that the tack & feed shops give away, as the content is aimed at someone who is not me (not really sure who).

After having subscribed for years I have just let it expire. I was reading less and less of it each week, I got down to just reading the letters page, the horse ads and looking at the pics, just don't find it that interesting anymore and it seems to have got thinner and thinner so I decided it was a waste of money.

This seems to be the consensus from most people I know. Who is buying it to make it worth publishing in its current form? I know I'm a bit 'old school' but I'm not actually that ancient and I'm talking about people my age who preferred it before. I dread to think what my mother would say about a modern copy

(but then she is barking so maybe not that relevant!)

Have it ordered from the paper shop every week. It was pretty thin over the Xmas holidays but has got slightly better.
Sorry to say this but I enjoy the hunting reports but they are no where near as good as pre hunting act . Loved it when they were on a big dog fox for a few hours only for it to evade them and live another day. Don't agree with digging out but besides that , all fine by me
Don't like it in the summer because I don't like showing but please don't hate me for saying so!

Use to buy every week, but no longer, as it has got far to expensive and content is slowly going down hill.

/\ /\ /\ This. My hubby even bought me a years subscription for a birthday pressie a couple of years back, but it was very rarely delivered on time and sometimes I even received two weeks magazines at once - when that happened there seemed little point in reading it for the results and competition reports because by then it was so out of date :(.

^^^exactly this happened to me (dear, darling OH). Phoned and e-mailed about it, but never resloved, so now go and buy weekly - don't know why as it has got thinner and less interesting.

I feel I don't deserve to be on this forum really :o as I very rarely buy H&H (skint student here - but will usually read it if I can get my hands on a copy) and if I was to buy a horse magazine then it would be my 4th choice...

I have the joy of working in a very quiet shop which allows me to read H&H before putting it back on the shelf for someone else :p
I very rarely buy any magazines & I photocopy any useful training exercises from eventing-horse-H&H etc.

have to agree with you there, H&R is my favourite mag

I subscribe, and have done for years. I've had a few times when I've thought it's a waste of money. mainly when I haven't had time to read it, and end up being 7 or 8 weeks behind. However, I get a really good deal *whispers - they've never increased my subscription rate* so haven't cancelled it, and now it's a highlight of my week - I make sure I take the time out to read it, whether it's a thin or a thick edition ;)

My birthday is in January so I get a subscription as a joint Christmas/birthday present from my family every year. Its great as its like getting a present every week!!

I'm a subscriber although I'm not entirely sure why. I don't compete or hunt and, being heavily pregnant, riding is out of the question right now. But I like it. I like pouring through the adverts and letters pages. I like to dream about the property and horses I'd buy if I won the lottery.

I also subscribe to Your Horse but I don't enjoy it quite as much. I find the articles tend to become samey and predictable with the seasons. This is one thing I haven't found with H&H.

I don't subscribe as got mightily hacked off with it regularly either not turning up or arriving late. In addition they whacked up my subscription in year two and whe I queried it as it was ways more expensive than the " offers" that were on...was told I would need to cancel and then set up a new one ! So I voted with my purse and lapsed the subscription. I buy from our local shop if its in there now!

Thursday night for me is a ritual. Horses get done and then I get myself settled down on the sofa with the dog for a bar of choccy, coffee and my fave mag. I agree it's thinner sometimes but I read it cover to cover. I am a cranky cow if I don't get my Thursday fix...well that what my hubby says!
I get every horse mag available and like to keep up with all that's happening in the horsey world.
I keep all the mags and then give them to other horsey pals.
I am a tad sad but so is one of my best pals who has a similar ritual and when I talk to her we discuss what was in this weeks H&H!
**** goes off 2 get a life****;)
