Horse and Road Safety Survey - please complete if you hack in the UK!

Done but I'm intrigued about the last two questions, what possible relveance to road safety could wearing a breastplate or crupper have? Or whether you use a single or double jointed snaffle?

Also I said my horse doesn't wear any flourescent wear, but in fact she often wears something but not always the same thing. It depends upon the weather.

Just out of interest, why did you ask the questions about tack worn? I can understand the questions about High Viz clothing and equipment. But if you have a "near miss" because a vehicle nearly hits you, what has the tack your horse is wearing got to do with it?

Done - but I answered "hacking out more than 4 times" and have only had 1 incident in the last year. Unless you include this info surely your results will be skewed, showing a higher % of incidents than there were. for example 4x52 = 204 hacking days with 1 incident. Whereas someone else may only hack once a week - 52 hacking days with 2 incidents

Thanks very much everyone! The data will be processed many different ways so skewing etc will be taken into account.
The weather does make people change their reflective gear - but should it? That's another lot of research to be done!
The reason I have included other tack is because my most recent work has been concerning certain items of tack and I popped it in there just to see!
Different types of roads could be considered in a future study - however no one has yet completed research on whether we have more accidents on major or minor roads with our horses.
If you wish to complete it twice it has to be done on a different computer - only realised this afterwards (something to do with the survey company...).
Thanks again everyone - keep passing it on, the more I get the better the data!

Road speed limit may have been a good question to ask on near misses. Another thing to consider is was the horse misbehaving, napping etc we can't forget that horses can be pratts too and no matter how wide or slow drivers go a napping horse can head towards a vehicle and go looking for trouble.

If you or your horse were not wearing anything don't tick any of the boxes - thanks :-)
Good point about speed and behaviour - certainly behaviour will be my next research (that's my background). When you start a new research idea so many others pop up!
Thanks so much everyone!

Done, but you missed "bus/coach" off your list of vehicles (so mine's the one with no answer to that question!).

Same here, so I checked "van" for that.

Also checked both "snaffle" and "french link", since a friench link is a snaffle...and both GP and DR saddles, since he may wear either.

Done.
I havent had any near misses this year but a couple of years ago we were hit by a lorry but that wasn't an option on your survey so it wont be reflected in your survey. I change what hi-viz i wear depending on the weather as i either use a jacket or a tabard along with everything else i use but i am always very visible.
