As a project for sixth form I am expected to look at art and find a piece I find amazing - I've been focusing on horsey ones ( just because i'm obsessed :p ) and there are so many brilliant ones, but i have to justify to the group why I find it so good - this is where you lot come in!
this is one i really really like

Do you like it? why? if not could you send me the link to one that you think is amazing? it doesn't have to be a sculpture
Thanks for your time :D x

There are lots of great equestrian artists out there at the moment, have a quick look at the society of equestrian artists website for some of them!

My husband is an equestrian artist, his website is www.mark-langley.com I know I'm biased but his piece contemplation is really lovely. It has won a couple of prizes and sells well as a print, it shows his favourite riding school horse, who is a very special chap, and I think really expresses his thoughtful intelligent side.

In terms of classic horse art, stubbs is of course the master, but landseer has done some great equestrian pictures,I like the arab tent. There is also a Joseph Wright picture (I can't remember the title) that shows a farrier at work in a forge that is brilliant - especially the use of light. Degas did a lot of racing pictures too.

Katt - wow thanks for your response, your right to be bias, your husband is amazing! :) and thanks for the other suggestions

photo_jo - thanks that's brilliant what a great idea :)

Thanks polopony!

I think so. It is all done in pencil and colour pencil too so it takes for ever! He's trying to make a go of it as a proper full time professional at the moment so good feedback is very important to him.

I love it!

Katt, your husbands work is incredible, I can't get over it! Inspired me to get some coloured pencils and give it a go. (Normally use graphite)

OP, the other good thing about the piece you have chosen is you can say it makes some comment about the current media attention given to global warming/deforestation etc. A bit deep, but it's always good for a bit more depth to your work :p Uffington could come into it too that way!! Are you allowed to do photography? Yann Arthus Bertrand did an amazing equine photography series, which looks at the involvement of horses in different cultures, it's quite cool. There's another equestrian artist, who I LOVE! Will toddle off to find some of his stuff, it's really unusual :D

If you did go down the White Horse route legend has that if you stand in the eye of the White horse and make a wish it is supposed to come true-not that I think you are allowed to stand it in it any more and I can't remember what I wished for anyway. :D

Wow  Some of your husbands portraits are amazing! I was just looking at the horse headshots and thought the first one was a photo!! He's really good :D

As someone else has already said The Blacksmiths' Shop by Joseph Wright it absolutely brilliant, though equine related it doesn't actually contain a horse, which is maybe what you were specifically after?

Thanks for your replies guys, your all bloody brilliant! I think these horse pictures are definitely going to put everyone elses monet and salvador dali to shame! :p :D :) xx

Btw sarahann1 you can tell your friend from me i think their work is brilliant :D x

and no Toodle, it can be anything, I just prefer equine related things, so I'll definitely be having a look at that one :) x

Really I could have sworn there was a horse in it....... but it was many years ago that we did our school art project on joseph wright! His work is amazing though, I focused on the alchemist for my school project thingy.

Thank you :D

Do the sculpture as its different and amazing, organic, natural wood all natural like a horse itself. All to do with nature, the colour links in, so seeing it from afar you could think the sculpture is a horse. I love the colouring on the legs, not sure if thats naturally occoured or been coloured by artist, but makes horse look more real. I love it, how they have managed to get flowing mane and tail, yet its all wood. fab!!
