is it usual to be able to see horses moving (i'm talking about unbroken horses) either in the ring or before the auction, or does it just depend upon the particular sale?

usually you will see them moving, foals may be run around by handler or let loose as continues as auction is going on until sold, youngstock will tend to be run around by handler

If your talking about the markets the ring is so small you cannot see the horse or pony move properly.
