Ebony was on loan too a friend of mine while this other loanee gets ready for her ( still not ready) so im currently riding her, both yesterday and today she has been very laidback and not really wanting to go foward and ingoring my leg specaily when asking for canter and just putting her ears back and thinking no!. Now most people on this form will know ebony is the opposite and i always had struggled with slowing now, now i can really get her going , today i wore spurs thinking maybe it would just give that extra push and she thought that was even worse and thought she would buck when asking for canter..., so i was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me too start getting her foward going again?
thank you :) x

Well as she's acting out of character I'd be looking for the most obvious - so saddle, back, etc. And if still no answers maybe a couple of days off and then re-assess.

If no better I'd get her checked out.

Am I correct in remembering that Ebony has bone spavin? If so, this could be the reason why she doesn't want to go forward.

All the usual checks. Saddle/back/teeth etc.

How does your friend ride her? only asking as she may be a little like me (I have a very quiet seat and seem to make most Horse's lazy!) My old share would plod around with me, I ended up riding with a schooling whip! then as soon as her owner would get on her she would be back to her nutty self! She could change in a matter of mintues depending on who was riding her. My YO is complete opposite to me and has a hot seat and fizzes up the Horses, even my Mare goes better for her, then she does me Lol.

Yes shes does have a spavin but i did't think that it was that because i know when she feels stiff and off because of it and she doesnt at all? i warm up in trot and walk for at least 30minutes any just in case,
shes not a quite rider :o but as you said shes will just sit on her and no be bothered about what shes doing or speed just plots where as i want them to be working foward and using herself probly :p

But you say she's refusing to go forward, so how do you know she doesn't feel stiff and off?

If she's acting out of character so strongly, then there is definately something wrong. Shoving spurs in her side is probably not the way forward!! Ditto everyone else, give her a thorough MOT. Did she move yard when she was on loan? Could be something to do with nutrition/what she was eating there? Mineral imbalances, high starch/sugar overload?? If she didn't move, ignore that!!
