Well I haven't been on here much lately and look what I come on for............I'm the YO!
Yes all of this is true. First time this happened I had a word with the mother (who is lovely), and told her they had one more chance. Well she blew that one last night. She will be asked to leave the yard, HOWEVER I and the guy who teaches the girl will be asking her mother to sell the mare and not to let the girl have another horse until she knows she'll not do this again.
Yes she's being kicked off, I'm not having a horse beater on the yard, and as Jo has said everyone else is lovely, but I don't want her moving to another yard and doing the same.
Also want to say that this girl has an AWFUL background, NO it is no excuse, not at all, BUT she was was profusely abused as a child, which from doing psychology, I know why she does this to this lovely mare (who is by Darco btw, not Arko
).
It is an awful shame as when she rides well she is fantastic! She just gets fustrated for the silliest of reasons.........pretty sure it's because of her background.
Anyway I'm talking to her mum later who has already told me the girl isn't allowed near the mare for the next few days. I really hope we can get this sorted as the mare has fear in her eyes now all the time
I am so glad you are being responsible over this, being on a livery yard with abuse happening is very stressful and if you don't tackle it you may find some liveries leave. Well done for putting these considerations before money.
I think from what I have read this girl is very troubled and until she has professional help to overcome/ understand her demons she must not be allowed access to her own animals.
There is someone who hunts with us who is renowned for her temper and hitting horses. I was horrified to see one of her horse's out hunting with a swollen and totally closed weeping eye. She had put it at a jump and it had stopped resulting in her falling off. She beat it and hit it in the face with her hunting whip. I was absolutely disgusted to then be told that she has beaten horses to the ground due to her temper getting the better of her. The thing is what can you do? Its not your horse.
I am sorry, maybe I am odd but there is absolutely no way I could stand by and watch that without confronting her. If that were a child would you still stand by and do nothing cos its not you're child. Bullies get away with things because no-one tackles their behavior.

Agree 100%
There is NO excuse for this behaviour troubled past or not.
Hi Claire, I've read this thread with interest, not adding my two pennorth as what I think has already been said. Having a bit of a temper myslef, I would have been hard put, bad background or not, to not 'explain in words of one syllable' to the girl. You are a better YO than I would be. I would have had to get the authorities involved if this girl (and her parents) could not get themselves sorted out and the mare be safe. I have got angry with our two pones (inflicting harm on daughters, and no, they weren't just having a bad day), but it was over quickly and the pones are more than happy to see me and will come up for cuddles. To see an animal with fear in its eyes, for it to have no way of escape or proteciton, is totally wrong. Right, said m'bit now, will await with interest (if you'll be kind enough to let us know what happens). C.x
... I have been known to punch people because they beat their horses - and I was a teenager at the time... being a moody teenager is no excuse for cruelty against horses - or any other creature
on a serious note - collect evidence - video best with times etc. and get people to put a witness statement in writing (you may be surprised though that a lot of people chicken out at that stage), then get the RSPCA involved.
Just read all the posts from when I left the conversation yesterday! Well Done YO, I think you are being very responsible and I really hope the horsey finds a lovely home and the girl gets some counselling for her previous background. Unfortunately abused children do sometimes become abusers, but if she gets help and can talk to someone about it then she may get through it. Hope all goes well with her and you Yard Claire.

Our Master would not stand for that he would send her home and make sure she knew that she would not be welcome till her temper improved

I hope the girl gets some help and I hope things work out for the poor horse
Is this not something that should be reported to the ILPH etc? If she is DELIBERATELY hurting the horse, through anger or not?
If it was me I would call them! That might be the shock that she needs. Sod the nicely nicely approach! Take the mothers reg number and give them that to so they can have her home address if YO doesn't have a note of it. I am really surprised she has not been kicked out of shows for violent behavior! Years ago I saw CHILD being asked to leave a large local show because they beat their pony so hard it was urinating as it was bombing around and jumping.
She wouldn't like it if someone took their temper tantrum out on her...................although also maybe they should..................I am feeling particularly like a hissy fit at the moment! I could easy drive down and knock her out?
