Hi all
I am really struggling with my pony. Basically he is eating his bed which is making him cough. I know this because in the morning and he has bedding round his muzzle and i find globs of mashed up bedding on the floor where he has coughed it up.
He is currently on Unibed which is a finely chopped rape straw - can anyone recomend a bedding that a horse won't eat but it must be biodegradable at our farmers request.
Thank you in advance :-)

I found my greedy horse ate all of the chopped straw bedding so his back on shavings he won't eat that! I know some yards don't like shavings how about aubiose or easy bed or megazorb I think they are all biodegradable, I know a lot of people use wood pellets not sure if they are or not someone might know on here.

Thanks for your reply - i was looking at easibed, worth a try i guess just hope he doesnt eat that too lol!
Greedy ponies are so naughty haha

I have a daft horse that will cheerfully tuck into her bed - straw, hemp, woodshavings and even paper (and yes, she has ad-lib hay). For a while I used cardboard but that's ghastly to muck out. I'm currently using Megasorb and though she sniffs the fresh bedding when I put it in she doesn't actually seem to eat it at all and it rots down a treat.

Shavings? i cant imagine why they would want to eat those !!

While I agree with you, Groom Mum, my horse doesn't. With fine shavings she licks up the clean stuff, with large shavings she delicately picks up each shaving with her teeth then wolfs it down.

Maybe my horse thinks she's a beaver.
