Need some positive vibes, my horse was double barrelled about 5/6 times tonight in the field. She’s come in with two cuts on both of her hind legs just above hocks and then also a small cut on her tendon. The tendon where shes got the small cut and probably where the majority of the kicks were received (although i only saw it happen from 2 fields away so i cant be sure where she was booted the most) is now hot i also think i can feel a small bump on the outside (now questioning if im being paraNoid) but no swelling at the moment and she doesnt look lame however i only watched her walk in from the field and around her stable as it was dark. I cold hosed it and put aloe vera on the cuts but now in going to be sleepless all night until the morning 😭 i know this is an impossible question but what are the chances of her being lame in the morning if she seemed sound tonight and is it possible its just warm now because she was kicked there and will be fine by the morning?!

I’d say it’s quite likely she might look/feel worse tomorrow morning (I know that if I injure myself sometimes it can feel worse/more sore the next day!) Also might be abit swollen if stood in the stable overnight rather than out moving. Agree with above ref the cuts - I prefer to use stuff that will help them to dry, however the aloe might be nice and soothing for the warm bit. And cold hosing was a good shout

I'd make sure I cleaned the area well and cold hose the hell out of it as many times a day you can manage or ice with ice-vibe or ice boots, - make sure to put a bit of thin toilet paper/kitchen roll inside boot against the skin to prevent ice burn.

I'd box rest for two or three days, bandage for support and bute as an anti- inflammatory.

This is the worse cut, its more a graze/ skinned the fur off. The other side is the same but of a bit smaller area. The tendon one i havent got a photo of nut its only really small i didnt notice it till i ran my hand down her legs.

No nothing deep and no blood. I think im just worried if shes damaged something internally like her tendon or something , whats the chances if theres no bad cuts?

Looks superficial, but she's likely to have bruising on the hit near the tendon. I'd be happy doing a gentle hack if she's sound but personally wouldn't risk xc schooling. I'm a bit more cautious than some I'll admit - with that kind of thing I'm more of a life's too short, we'll go again another day kind of person.

Oh its tiny.

I really wouldnt lose sleep over it.

If she is sound in the morning, which I expect she will be, then I would just crack on personally.

ETA if you had not seen the horse get kicked and she had come in with that little scuff, I shouldn't think you would give it a second glance.

The cut in the photo really doesn't look anything to worry about.
She may well be bruised and i wouldn't be surprised if she's lame/stiff in the morning from standing in.
Lots of cold hosing and if there is no damage to the tendon (if there is, she needs the vet) I would want her to be moving as much as possible, until any swelling and/or stiffness has gone.
I wouldn't consider anything more than a light hack for a few days even if she seems sound.

I’d not be too concerned at this stage but I’d give Bute and prefer field rest to box rest which might cause stiffness. Ride gently once sound but maybe postpone xc.

I have turned her out this morning so she can keep moving on it. Still heat to the tendon which has the small cut on it. Ever so slightly swollen, you cant tell by looking at it but when you run your hand down her leg, where the cut is, there is a small amount of puffiness/swelling there. I cold hosed it this morning then trotted her up/ on lunge to make sure she’s still sound on it which she appears to be. I then put ice boots on while i mucked out and cold hosed again before turning out. Coated the cuts/ where the furs comes off in purple spray. Will see how she is when i go back down later and possibly take her on a gentle hack/walk up the lane.
