My horse who has just gone 6 is being rather stroppy all the time. He's always testing me and tries to get away with everything but he never does.

It doesn't bother me much cause after about 5 minutes of him acting stupid he apologises and starts behaving. I'm pretty sure he's just being a stroppy teenager as he is not in pain at all.

Does anybody elses horse go through this stage?

The joys of horses!
At 4 they are lovely and willing to please.
They turn 5/6 and realise they are stronger, and have learnt a few more tricks they fancy trying out, get bored then work nicely :p
Sometime when I'm schooling Lacey it can be a bit mad, teenage rider and 5yo opinionated mare ;)

Dan as a 4yo - sweetest thing ever, if a bit panicky at times.
5yo - Realised he was fitted, stronger, bigger.... as soon as the work got harder, he took offense and did everything to make ME work harder! Also decided that going around jumps was easier. Was a complete git to turn out too.
Just turned 6.... a saint on the ground now, jumps what he's pointed at, his flatwork tends to have it's moments of greatness, and then he'll find a new evasion tactic, usually when we find something new and harder to do, or if we do too much of the same. So now it's just a careful balancing act, rather than a war! Although now we can't really hack out...... ;)
Hopefully 7 will be a good year!

Ugh – Mine is about to turn 7 (in 6 days!) and has come out of this and has been going through a “whatever” stage for the last few months.

He just doesn't give a toss when he's disciplined (even by fierce OH). If he could do the “W” sign at the same time he would. He rolled when OH was leading him at the weekend, cue OH having a proper strop at him – cue horse getting up, shaking himself off and looking off into the distance “if I wanna roll I will right - whatever”

He has matured in many other good ways in the last few months though, especially with regards to work :)
